Deen Spot has no accounts. You are never asked to sign in, give an email address, or tell us who you are, and there is nothing to sign in to. This page explains the little that is stored anyway, and where it goes.

What stays on your phone

Held in the app’s own storage on your device, never uploaded to us:

• The masjids you follow.
• The events you have saved.
• Your chosen area and search radius, and the categories you are interested in.
• Your reminder settings.

Deleting the app removes all of it. Because none of it reaches us, we cannot recover it for you, and it does not move to a new phone.

What is sent to our servers

The area you are looking at

Finding what is on nearby means telling the server where “nearby” is. When you browse events, the app sends the coordinates of the area you have chosen — a postcode you typed, a position on the map, or your device location if you offer it — along with the radius and any filters.

This is sent only to answer that request. It is not stored against you, because there is no account for it to be attached to, and it is not used to build a profile or shared with anyone.

Your device location

The app asks for location access only when you choose “use my current location”, and only while the app is open. You can refuse and use a postcode instead; every part of the app works either way. Location is used to work out which events are near you and for nothing else. You can withdraw the permission at any time in your device settings.

Ordinary server logs

Like any website, our servers record requests they receive, including the IP address they came from, the time, and the page or endpoint requested. These logs exist to keep the service running and secure. They are not used to identify individuals or combined with anything else.

Notifications

Event reminders are scheduled by your phone, from information already on it. Nothing is sent from our servers to your device, and we do not know which events you have set a reminder for. Turning reminders off cancels everything already scheduled.

What we do not do

• No accounts, and no email or phone number is ever requested.
• No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
• No analytics, crash reporting, or third-party tracking software in the app.
• Nothing is sold or shared with data brokers.
• No cookies on the app; this website sets none either.

Information about masjids and events

Listings describe public events at public venues. They are not personal information about you, but they may name an organiser or a speaker, and they sometimes carry a contact number that the masjid itself printed on the poster.

If you are named on a listing and would rather not be, write to and we will remove it.

If your masjid sends us posters

Masjids get listed by adding our number to the WhatsApp group they already post events to. If you are part of a group that has done this, it is worth knowing what happens to what is sent there.

• We receive the messages sent to that number — the text, any images, and the sending number — and store them so that a listing can be traced back to what it came from and corrected.
• Posters are read by an automated model to pull out the date, time, venue and speaker. This processing happens on Microsoft Azure, in the United Kingdom or European Union, under contract to us.
• We moderate what is published, and step in where something needs correcting or removing.
• Only event details are ever published. Personal messages, phone numbers of group members, and anything that is not an event announcement are not listed in the app.

If your masjid would like us to stop, or to have what we hold deleted, ask at or simply remove the number from the group.

How long things are kept

• Event listings stay while they are useful, and past events are removed in the normal course.
• Messages received from masjid groups are kept while the listings drawn from them are live, so corrections remain possible.
• Server logs are kept for a short period for security and troubleshooting.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask what personal data is held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office. In practice we hold almost nothing that identifies anyone using the app — there are no accounts — so most requests concern posters sent to us by a masjid group.

Write to and we will respond within one month.

Children

Deen Spot is for a general audience and lists community events, some of which are aimed at young people. It does not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age.

Changes

If this page changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes with it and the app will point you here.
